Not just a tool, an opportunity
Workover Solutions (WOS) drillout success is due in large part to our BitSavR tool, a Smart Sub that activates a flow bypass once a predetermined weight on bit (WOB) limit has been reached.
The flow bypass creates a pressure drop, alerting the driller of the high WOB and allows them to readjust to the desired operational window. The BitSavR gives the on-surface personnel another touchpoint to improve their awareness of downhole conditions at the bit to optimize the working parameters.
This tool is very compatible and designed to perform with standard completion fluids and to be as compact as possible to minimize rigidity in the BHA.
Highlights:
- Due to its spring-actuated mechanism, BitSavR inherently absorbs shocks sent through the BHA and the workstring
- Reliability increases as the tool can lower the chance of erroneous check valve cycling due to sudden jolts or impacts
- The motor within a BHA is protected, given this is a tool enduring successive high stress cycles, this safeguard helps with its endurance
- Any BHA has many moving parts and therefore is prone to be a weak point within a drill string, so utilizing a tool designed to protect the BHA will allow operators to reach TD (total depth) on longer lateral wells, with deeper TVDs (total vertical depth) in less trips
Figure 1 below shows the Drillout Count vs. WOS Drillout Reliability with BitSavR vs. % Runs with BitSavR; and Figure 2 below shows WOS Drillout Reliability with BitSavR vs. % Runs with BitSavR.
The figures highlight how WOS reliability is already top notch, but as the percentage of runs with BitSavR has increased, so has the reliability on those runs.
When surface personnel are more in tune with downhole conditions, they can adjust their inputs with precision which increases drilling performance and preserves the components of the BHA.
